Welcome to Think About Freedom. I am Bob
Blair the founder
of this site, a newsletter and print column. I was born in the early
1960’s and
have been a lifelong resident of Southern California. I am single, no
children
and the owner of several small businesses. I have been an occasional
voter, but
never especially political. . . . .until the attacks on 9-11. I was home
sick on 9-11 and
remained home on 9-12. At one point I was talking to a neighbor, around
my age
- middle 30’s. I didn’t know her very well, just enough to
say "hi",
not much more. She and I talked for a few minutes about the shocking
events of
the prior day. We both joined the nation in sadness, fear and
uneasiness. As we
parted, I said what I thought was a rather mild, but truly American
type
comment, “Well I hope it
doesn’t lead
to an overreaction by the government and a real loss of liberty
etc.” She
didn’t miss a beat, and looked me right in the eye and said: “I don’t care what they
do…if it saves one life it’s worth it”. I looked back at her and
said “I have no
clue how to
respond to that statement”. She was a
person far more educated then I, several degrees, and despite that she
didn’t
have a clue. It was at
that moment that
the seeds were planted for my book, this site and my other efforts. My
purpose
is to redirect and alter this oft used phrase that has grown like a
cancer in
our lexicon. "If it
saves one life it’s worth it."
This one little phrase that has swept our land…our
language…and
has hurt our liberty more then it will ever help us.
A safe life …has become more
important
then our way of life. My response is … if
it saves one freedom…it’s worth it. I then set
about to craft
my “mission statement” which is simple and very much at the
heart of my current
activism. It simply reads: Inspiring
people to question the ever-changing definition of freedom. My mission, my purpose, is to
inspire as many people as possible to discuss, argue and question the
changing
definitions of freedom and liberty. I
personally believe that
most people in the USA today either don’t get it, or simply
don’t care that our
way of life is in real danger. My hope is to foster this debate in ways
that
encourage a positive outlook to the future. |
